White Desert Solar Eclipse 2027: Total or Partial? Where Can You Watch?

White Desert Solar Eclipse 2027: Total or Partial? Where Can You Watch?

The White Desert Solar Eclipse 2027 is attracting travelers who want to combine one of the most extraordinary astronomical events of the century with Egypt’s spectacular Western Desert landscapes.

On Monday, August 2, 2027, a total solar eclipse will cross parts of Egypt, bringing several minutes of complete solar coverage to locations inside the Moon’s path of totality.

But will you actually see the total solar eclipse from Egypt’s famous White Desert?

The answer depends on your exact location. Not every part of the White Desert region lies within the path of totality. Bahariya Oasis is inside the total eclipse path, while Farafra Oasis, closely associated with the White Desert, will experience a partial eclipse.

This distinction is essential for anyone planning a White Desert solar eclipse adventure.

A destination can experience an extremely deep partial eclipse without witnessing the extraordinary darkness and solar corona visible during totality.

Therefore, travelers should never assume that any location advertised as the White Desert will provide a total eclipse.

The good news is that you can combine a properly selected eclipse viewing location near Bahariya Oasis with an unforgettable safari through the Black Desert, Crystal Mountain, Agabat Valley, and the White Desert.

For international travelers, this creates an opportunity to experience both the astronomical event and one of Egypt’s most unusual natural landscapes.

In this complete guide, we explain where the August 2027 eclipse will be total or partial, the best viewing strategy for White Desert visitors, expected eclipse times, weather conditions, transportation from Cairo, and how to plan a guided desert safari around the event.

Will the White Desert Experience a Total Solar Eclipse in 2027?

Some locations in the wider White Desert travel region may be suitable for eclipse observation, but totality must be verified using exact coordinates. It is incorrect to assume that the entire White Desert National Park will experience a total solar eclipse.

The confusion comes from the geography of Egypt’s Western Desert.

The White Desert is a vast protected landscape associated with the Bahariya–Farafra desert route.

Visitors commonly approach it from Bahariya Oasis, passing through several geological attractions before reaching the famous white chalk formations.

However, the eclipse path does not follow tourist destinations, administrative boundaries, or conventional safari routes.

It follows a precisely calculated astronomical corridor.

A location inside this corridor may experience totality.

Another location farther south may see only a partial eclipse.

Why Farafra Matters

Farafra Oasis is one of the major geographical reference points for the White Desert.

According to Timeanddate’s calculations, Farafra will experience a partial solar eclipse on August 2, 2027.

Maximum eclipse there is expected around 12:53 PM local time, with an eclipse magnitude of approximately 0.994.

That is an extremely deep partial eclipse.

However, it is still not totality.

Even a tiny visible portion of the Sun’s bright surface prevents the full total-eclipse experience.

Travelers can verify the location-specific prediction through the Farafra Solar Eclipse 2027 calculations.

What About the Famous White Desert Formations?

The famous formations are spread across a substantial landscape.

There is no single GPS coordinate representing every attraction or camping location.

Therefore, it would be misleading to provide one totality duration for the entire White Desert.

Anyone planning to watch the eclipse from a specific formation, campsite, or viewpoint must check that location against a detailed eclipse path map.

The best planning principle is simple: select the eclipse viewing site for astronomical accuracy first, then organize White Desert sightseeing around it.

For more information about the geography and protected landscape, read our White Desert National Park Egypt Guide.

Where Should White Desert Visitors Watch the 2027 Eclipse?

For travelers arriving from Cairo and planning to explore the White Desert, Bahariya Oasis offers an important viewing base because Al Bawiti lies inside the path of totality.

Bahariya Oasis is approximately 370 kilometers southwest of Cairo.

It is also a major gateway to the Black Desert and White Desert safari routes.

This makes it possible to organize an itinerary that combines eclipse observation with desert exploration.

However, choosing Bahariya Oasis does not mean that every possible viewing location automatically has the same duration of totality.

The observation point must still be checked.

1. Al Bawiti and Bahariya Oasis

Al Bawiti is the main town in Bahariya Oasis.

Current astronomical calculations place it inside the 2027 path of totality.

Totality is expected to last approximately six minutes and eighteen seconds, with maximum eclipse occurring around 12:53 PM.

That provides a substantial period of totality.

The wider oasis also offers a practical starting point for desert transportation and local guiding arrangements.

Learn more in our Bahariya Oasis Solar Eclipse 2027 Viewing Guide.

You can also discover the region’s attractions in our Bahariya Oasis Egypt Travel Guide.

2. The Black Desert Region

The Black Desert is another important location for travelers interested in the 2027 eclipse.

Its dark hills and unusual geological scenery create a dramatic setting for desert photography.

Parts of the wider Bahariya–Black Desert region lie inside the totality corridor.

However, visitors should not assume that every hill, campsite, or viewpoint receives the same eclipse duration.

The final observation point must be verified against the path of totality and approved access conditions.

Discover more in our Black Desert Solar Eclipse 2027 Guide.

For general information about the landscape, visit our Black Desert Egypt Destination Guide.

3. White Desert National Park

The White Desert remains an extraordinary destination for sightseeing before or after the eclipse.

Its white limestone sculptures, open landscapes, and famous mushroom-shaped formations provide a memorable contrast to the darker terrain around Bahariya.

However, it should not automatically be selected as the observation site without checking the exact coordinates.

Travelers can enjoy the White Desert as part of a multi-day eclipse safari while watching totality from a separate, confirmed location.

This approach avoids sacrificing the astronomical event for an attractive but potentially unsuitable viewpoint.

Why Is the August 2, 2027 Solar Eclipse So Special?

The August 2027 event is remarkable because of its unusually long duration of totality.

According to NASA’s eclipse predictions, the maximum duration along the global eclipse path is approximately six minutes and twenty-three seconds.

That makes it one of the longest total solar eclipses of the 21st century.

The path crosses parts of southern Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.

Egypt is particularly important because several locations experience more than six minutes of totality.

What Happens During a Total Solar Eclipse?

A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves directly between Earth and the Sun.

From locations inside the path of totality, the Moon completely covers the Sun’s bright visible surface for a short period.

During this phase, the sky darkens dramatically.

The Sun’s outer atmosphere, known as the solar corona, becomes visible.

The horizon may develop unusual twilight-like colors.

Bright stars or planets may also become visible.

The surrounding environment can change in extraordinary ways, particularly in an open desert landscape.

Then the Moon continues moving, the Sun’s bright surface reappears, and daylight returns.

For travelers who have never witnessed totality, the experience is fundamentally different from observing a partial solar eclipse.

NASA provides a detailed explanation through its August 2, 2027 Total Solar Eclipse Path Map.

Why a 99% Partial Eclipse Is Not the Same as Totality

This is one of the most important facts for travelers planning the White Desert eclipse.

Many people assume that a 99% eclipse must look almost identical to a total eclipse.

That assumption is incorrect.

During a deep partial eclipse, a small portion of the Sun’s bright photosphere remains visible.

Even a narrow remaining section produces enough light to prevent the complete totality experience.

The solar corona is not revealed in the same way.

Observers must also continue using proper solar eye protection throughout the partial eclipse.

During a true total solar eclipse, the Moon completely blocks the bright solar surface.

Only then can observers experience the full darkness and view the corona directly during the brief total phase.

For eclipse travelers, the difference between a deep partial eclipse and totality is far more important than a few extra seconds of duration.

This is why checking your exact viewing coordinates matters so much.

What Time Is the White Desert Solar Eclipse in 2027?

Eclipse timings depend on your geographical location.

For travelers using Bahariya Oasis as their observation base, Al Bawiti provides a useful reference.

The observation site should be selected and verified before the event.

You can check the predicted circumstances using Timeanddate’s Al Bawiti Eclipse Calculator.

How Long Does the Entire Eclipse Last?

Near Al Bawiti, the partial phases and totality together cover approximately two hours and forty-six minutes.

This is important for planning.

You should not arrive at the observation area only a few minutes before maximum eclipse.

You need time to prepare equipment, organize the viewing area, drink water, and understand the safety procedures.

A well-planned expedition should reach its observation point comfortably before the eclipse begins.

For additional location-specific timings, explore our Egypt Eclipse 2027 Times Guide.

How to Check Whether Your Viewing Location Is Inside Totality

The best way to verify a viewing location is to use a reliable eclipse map showing the northern and southern boundaries of the path of totality.

NASA publishes maps and geographical calculations for the August 2027 eclipse.

The central line runs through the middle of the totality corridor.

Locations closer to the central line generally experience longer totality than locations near the boundaries.

Step 1: Identify Your Exact Coordinates

Ask your tour operator for the proposed GPS coordinates of the observation site when they become available.

A general description such as “White Desert campsite” is not precise enough.

The coordinates should identify the actual place where the group will stand during the eclipse.

Step 2: Check the Eclipse Path

Compare the location with a detailed astronomical eclipse map.

Confirm that the point falls inside the totality boundaries.

Do not rely exclusively on a small map shared on social media.

Step 3: Avoid the Boundary

A location very close to the edge of the path may experience little or no totality.

Small changes in position can significantly affect the duration.

For this reason, operators should choose a suitable location comfortably inside the totality corridor whenever practical.

Step 4: Confirm Access

The selected location must also be accessible and permitted.

An astronomically ideal location is not a practical option if the route is closed or access is prohibited.

Step 5: Check the Final Plan Before Departure

Weather, local regulations, road conditions, and operational arrangements may influence the final observation point.

The selected position should be verified again before the trip.

Can You Combine the 2027 Solar Eclipse with a White Desert Safari?

Yes. A multi-day guided safari can combine eclipse observation near Bahariya Oasis with sightseeing in the Black Desert and White Desert.

For international visitors, this can be more practical than attempting to organize separate transportation, accommodation, and desert excursions.

The White Desert is not located immediately beside central Cairo.

Visitors normally travel toward Bahariya Oasis before continuing into the desert using appropriate 4×4 vehicles.

A longer itinerary allows time for the astronomical event and the surrounding attractions.

Why a Multi-Day Tour Makes Sense

The eclipse occurs on one specific date.

This means the travel schedule must prioritize reaching the observation location on time.

A multi-day itinerary can reduce the need for a long transfer from Cairo immediately before the eclipse.

It also provides more opportunities to enjoy the desert landscapes without rushing.

For example, travelers may explore Bahariya and the Black Desert before the event.

After watching totality, the safari can continue toward Crystal Mountain, Agabat Valley, and the famous White Desert formations.

This combination brings together astronomy, natural landscapes, and desert adventure.

Travelers interested in other desert experiences can also explore our Egypt Desert Safari Packages Guide.

Egypt Desert Dunes: August 1–3, 2027 Eclipse Safari

Egypt Desert Dunes offers a special three-day, two-night private eclipse safari from Cairo, scheduled for August 1–3, 2027.

The published itinerary is designed around viewing the eclipse from a suitable location inside the Bahariya Oasis totality zone.

The White Desert is included as part of the wider desert adventure.

However, the operator does not promise that the total eclipse will be observed from an ordinary White Desert campsite.

The exact observation location is selected according to astronomical calculations, safe access, and operating conditions.

Day 1 — August 1: Cairo to Bahariya and the Black Desert

The experience begins with pickup from Cairo or Giza.

Travelers head toward Bahariya Oasis, the gateway to the Western Desert safari region.

After arriving, the itinerary includes selected oasis attractions and a transfer to a private 4×4 vehicle.

The published sightseeing program includes locations such as Bahariya Salt Lake, natural springs, English Mountain, and the Black Desert.

The first camping night is planned in the wider Bahariya–Black Desert region.

This arrangement keeps travelers relatively close to the intended eclipse observation area.

The evening provides an opportunity to relax, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the following day’s astronomical event.

Day 2 — August 2: Total Solar Eclipse and White Desert Safari

The second day is the highlight of the expedition.

After breakfast, the desert team travels to the selected viewing site inside the path of totality.

Travelers prepare their eclipse glasses, cameras, and observation equipment.

Near Al Bawiti, maximum eclipse is expected around 12:53 PM.

Depending on the exact coordinates, visitors may experience approximately six minutes of totality.

After the event, the published itinerary continues toward El Hez Village, Crystal Mountain, and Agabat Valley.

The route then explores the Old and New White Desert landscapes.

A second desert camp is arranged along the White Desert safari route.

Activities and stops remain subject to the confirmed operating conditions.

Day 3 — August 3: White Desert Sunrise and Return to Cairo

The final morning begins in the White Desert.

Travelers can enjoy the early desert atmosphere and breakfast before the return journey.

The group travels back toward Bahariya Oasis by 4×4 vehicle.

From the oasis, private road transportation continues toward Cairo or Giza.

This concludes the three-day experience combining a total solar eclipse with the Black Desert and White Desert.

What Makes the White Desert an Extraordinary Addition to the Eclipse?

The White Desert is famous for geological formations unlike those found in most other Egyptian destinations.

Its pale chalk and limestone structures have been shaped by geological processes and erosion.

Some formations resemble enormous mushrooms.

Others look like animals, towers, or abstract sculptures.

The contrast between these pale formations and the surrounding desert creates remarkable photography opportunities.

Mushroom Rock Formations

Mushroom-shaped rocks are among the White Desert’s best-known landmarks.

Their unusual appearance makes them popular subjects for photography.

Discover the geology and appearance of these features in our Mushroom Rock White Desert Egypt Guide.

Agabat Valley

Agabat Valley features dramatic desert hills, open landscapes, and unusual geological formations.

It is commonly included in Western Desert safari itineraries.

Read our Agabat Valley Egypt Travel Guide.

Montagna di Cristallo

Crystal Mountain is known for its crystal-bearing geological structures.

It offers a different landscape from the famous White Desert formations.

Explore our Crystal Mountain Egypt Guide.

Formazioni rocciose del Deserto Bianco

The extraordinary white chalk formations are the region’s most recognizable natural attractions.

They have been shaped into remarkable forms by long-term weathering and erosion.

Some are particularly impressive during sunrise and sunset, when low-angle sunlight emphasizes their unusual shapes.

Learn more about their geology and appearance in our White Desert Rock Formations Guide.

Together, these destinations make a White Desert eclipse safari much more than a single astronomical observation.

What Will the Weather Be Like in August 2027?

August is one of the hottest periods in Egypt’s Western Desert.

This is particularly important because the eclipse occurs around midday, when solar exposure can be intense.

Although the desert is famous for open skies, clear weather on August 2, 2027 cannot be guaranteed.

Historical cloud records can help travelers understand typical seasonal conditions.

However, they cannot predict the exact weather at a specific desert observation point months in advance.

What About Cloud Cover?

Egypt’s dry desert climate may offer favorable cloud conditions compared with many other eclipse destinations.

Nevertheless, clouds can still occur.

Dust and wind are also important considerations.

Even when the sky is technically cloud-free, airborne dust may reduce visibility or affect photography.

Travelers should monitor weather information as the event approaches.

Will the Temperature Drop During Totality?

A total solar eclipse can produce a noticeable reduction in temperature as sunlight decreases.

However, the extent of that change depends on local atmospheric conditions.

The eclipse does not eliminate the risks associated with spending several hours outdoors in August.

Shade, hydration, and heat protection remain essential.

What If the Eclipse Is Hidden by Clouds?

No tour operator can guarantee visibility.

The astronomical event will occur whether or not the sky is clear.

An experienced operator may assess alternative authorized locations if weather conditions and travel arrangements permit.

However, last-minute movement across remote desert terrain may not always be possible.

A realistic eclipse itinerary should include a clear explanation of weather limitations.

For practical guidance about traveling in hot climates, consult the CDC’s Heat Illnesses Travel Guide.

Is Watching the 2027 Eclipse in the White Desert Safe?

Observing the eclipse can be safe when proper eye protection and travel arrangements are used.

However, there are two separate safety issues:

Solar observation safety and remote desert travel safety.

Both deserve careful planning.

Solar Eclipse Eye Safety

Looking directly at the Sun without suitable protection can cause serious eye injury.

NASA explains that safe solar viewers are required during the partial phases of a total solar eclipse.

Ordinary sunglasses are not sufficient.

Solar eclipse glasses should comply with the recognized ISO 12312-2 standard.

Inspect your viewers before use and discard damaged equipment.

Children should be supervised while using solar viewers.

When Can You Remove Eclipse Glasses?

During a total solar eclipse, direct viewing without eclipse glasses is safe only during the brief total phase, when the Moon completely covers the Sun’s bright surface.

This exception applies exclusively at locations experiencing true totality.

You must put the glasses back on before any bright sunlight reappears.

If your observation location experiences only a partial eclipse, you must keep appropriate solar eye protection on whenever looking directly at the Sun.

For complete safety instructions, consult NASA’s Solar Eclipse Viewing Safety Guide.

Cameras and Telescopes Need Special Filters

Eclipse glasses are not suitable substitutes for camera or telescope filters.

During partial phases, cameras, binoculars, and telescopes require appropriate solar filters attached securely to the front of the optics.

Looking through unfiltered optical equipment can cause severe eye injury.

Photographers should prepare their equipment well before traveling.

Safety When Traveling Through Egypt’s Western Desert

The White Desert and surrounding landscapes are remote.

Mobile reception may be limited, and conventional medical facilities are not readily available throughout the desert.

Visitors should travel with appropriate local guiding arrangements and follow current access regulations.

The UK government’s travel advice states that tourists entering Bahariya Oasis, Farafra, the White Desert, and the Black Desert must arrange permits in advance and use an official guide.

Travelers should check the latest requirements before departure.

The guidance also warns about restrictions affecting particular Western Desert roads, including the Al Bawiti–Siwa route.

Visitors should not attempt to create their own unrestricted off-road itinerary.

Review the official UK Government Egypt Regional Travel Advice.

For additional practical information, read our Guida alla sicurezza nel Deserto Bianco in Egitto.

How to Travel from Cairo to the 2027 Eclipse Viewing Area

For international travelers, Cairo is a practical starting point for a Bahariya-based eclipse expedition.

Cairo International Airport connects Egypt with major international destinations.

After arriving, visitors can spend time exploring Cairo and Giza before beginning their Western Desert adventure.

Bahariya Oasis lies approximately 370 kilometers southwest of Cairo.

Road travel generally takes several hours.

Exact travel times depend on departure location, traffic, stops, road conditions, and any applicable procedures.

Why Travel Before Eclipse Day?

The eclipse occurs on August 2, 2027.

Traveling from Cairo to Bahariya on the morning of the eclipse creates a risk of delays.

For a dedicated eclipse trip, arriving in the region beforehand is generally more practical.

This allows time to prepare the observation arrangements.

It also reduces the pressure of trying to complete a long road transfer immediately before the event.

The Egypt Desert Dunes itinerary addresses this by departing Cairo on August 1.

For more general transportation information, read our Cairo to White Desert Egypt Guide.

Travelers planning a longer holiday can also combine the eclipse safari with a Full-Day Giza Tour before or after their desert adventure.

Should You Camp in the White Desert During the Eclipse Trip?

Camping is one of the defining experiences of many White Desert safaris.

It provides an opportunity to enjoy remote scenery, desert silence, and night skies away from major cities.

However, the eclipse itself takes place during the day.

You do not need to sleep at the exact observation location to witness totality.

What matters is reaching the correct viewing position at the correct time.

Why Camping May Be Useful

A carefully planned camping arrangement may reduce long transfers on eclipse morning.

It can also allow travelers to explore the Black Desert and White Desert as part of the same itinerary.

However, the campsite location must still comply with current access permissions.

Camping equipment, sleeping arrangements, toilet facilities, and other services should be confirmed before booking.

Explore our Guida al campeggio nel Deserto Bianco for additional preparation advice.

Can You Stay in a Hotel Instead?

Accommodation is available in the wider Bahariya Oasis region.

However, a hotel-based eclipse itinerary requires different transportation and scheduling arrangements.

Travelers who prefer conventional accommodation should ask whether a suitable alternative can be organized.

Do not assume that a published camping package automatically includes a hotel option.

What Should You Pack for the White Desert Solar Eclipse 2027?

Because the eclipse occurs in August, preparation for heat and intense sunlight is essential.

Your equipment should cover both the astronomical event and the surrounding desert adventure.

Essential Eclipse Equipment

  • Suitable ISO 12312-2 solar eclipse glasses.
  • Appropriate solar filters for any optical equipment.
  • Camera or smartphone.
  • Spare batteries.

  • Sunglasses for ordinary sun protection.
  • Sunscreen.
  • Comfortable closed-toe shoes.
  • Lightweight scarf for dust.
  • Personal medication.
  • Reusable water bottle.
  • Small day backpack.
  • Tissues and hand sanitizer.

For overnight camping, ask your operator about sleeping equipment and additional personal items.

Read our What to Pack for White Desert Egypt Guide.

Solar Eclipse Photography in the White Desert Region

The Western Desert offers fascinating opportunities for combining astronomy with landscape photography.

The Black Desert’s dark hills, open oasis landscapes, and White Desert formations provide visually different environments.

However, the best photography location is not necessarily the best location for experiencing totality.

Your first priority should be choosing a verified observation site inside the eclipse path.

Photographing the Solar Corona

During totality, the solar corona becomes visible around the Moon.

Capturing its structure requires careful exposure planning.

A stable tripod, suitable lens, and rehearsed camera settings can help.

The sequence is short, so experimenting for the first time during totality is not recommended.

Photographing the Desert Landscape

Wide-angle photography can capture the changing atmosphere around the observation area.

During totality, the landscape may develop unusual colors and darker lighting.

Photographers can also document the reactions of fellow travelers.

However, avoid sacrificing the actual experience while trying to capture every moment.

Practice Before August 2027

Learn how to attach and remove solar filters safely.

Check your camera’s exposure settings.

Prepare batteries and storage.

Consider using a remote shutter release.

Most importantly, plan time to observe totality with your own eyes when it is safe to do so.

For general desert photography advice, explore our Consigli per fotografare il Deserto Bianco.

White Desert Eclipse 2027: Tour Costs and Booking Considerations

The cost of a private eclipse safari depends on the selected services.

There is no single universal price for every White Desert eclipse experience.

Several factors affect the final quotation.

These include tour duration, number of travelers, transportation, accommodation, camping arrangements, meals, permits, entrance fees, and any specialized observation requirements.

A multi-day private safari involves different expenses from a simple transfer to an eclipse viewing location.

What Should You Confirm Before Paying?

Ask the operator whether the quotation includes transportation from Cairo, 4×4 desert travel, camping equipment, meals, drinking water, and all necessary guiding services.

Confirm whether applicable permits and entrance fees are included.

Ask whether eclipse glasses will be supplied or whether travelers must bring their own.

Also request the cancellation policy and information about weather-related limitations.

Most importantly, confirm that the eclipse observation location will be inside the path of totality.

A company should not promise a specific totality duration without identifying the relevant coordinates.

Can You Book the Eclipse Safari in Advance?

Yes, travelers can inquire about the special August 2027 departure.

Because the eclipse happens on one fixed date, booking arrangements should be discussed well in advance.

However, availability and final prices must be confirmed directly with the operator.

You can explore the 2027 Egypt Solar Eclipse White Desert Tour for the published itinerary.

For general background on desert travel expenses, see our White Desert Egypt Cost Guide.

Is the White Desert Solar Eclipse Tour Suitable for Families?

A guided eclipse safari may appeal to families interested in astronomy and outdoor adventures.

However, parents should carefully consider the August heat, long road transfers, remote camping conditions, and solar-viewing safety.

Children must be supervised when using eclipse glasses.

Families should also ask about suitable vehicle seating, shade, water, meals, rest breaks, and bathroom arrangements.

A private itinerary may provide useful flexibility, but the exact services must be confirmed.

Families with very young children or travelers with particular health requirements should evaluate whether the remote desert conditions are appropriate.

Why Choose a Guided Eclipse Safari Instead of Traveling Independently?

A Western Desert eclipse expedition involves more than reaching a place on a map.

It requires appropriate transportation, local guiding arrangements, permits, route planning, camping logistics, and emergency preparation.

The observation site must also be selected using reliable astronomical calculations.

For travelers unfamiliar with Egypt’s remote desert regions, arranging these elements independently can be challenging.

A properly organized safari brings the necessary travel arrangements together within one itinerary.

However, travelers should still verify the operator’s credentials, understand the included services, and request clear information about the observation location.

An organized tour does not guarantee clear skies or eliminate the risks of remote travel.

Its main advantage is coordinated planning and local operational support.

Why Explore the 2027 Eclipse with Egypt Desert Dunes?

Egypt Desert Dunes offers private safari experiences across Egypt’s Western Desert.

Its special 2027 eclipse itinerary combines the astronomical event with some of the region’s most remarkable natural landscapes.

The published program includes Bahariya Oasis, the Black Desert, Crystal Mountain, Agabat Valley, and the Old and New White Desert.

Unlike an itinerary that assumes any White Desert campsite will experience totality, the program identifies the Bahariya Oasis totality zone as its intended observation area.

The final observation point is selected according to astronomical calculations, access arrangements, and conditions.

Travelers can review the complete program and contact the team to confirm availability, pricing, and the final services included.

Final Thoughts: Where Should You Watch the White Desert Solar Eclipse 2027?

The August 2, 2027 total solar eclipse offers an extraordinary opportunity to experience Egypt’s Western Desert.

However, successful planning requires one essential decision: choosing a viewing location that actually experiences totality.

The entire White Desert should not be treated as a guaranteed total-eclipse viewing area.

Farafra Oasis will experience a partial eclipse, while Al Bawiti in Bahariya Oasis lies inside the path of totality.

That makes Bahariya an important base for travelers who want to combine eclipse observation with White Desert sightseeing.

Magical moments in the White Desert The White Desert tour was one of our favourite moments in Egypt. The sunset and sunrise surrounded by a lunar landscape were absolutely incredible. Mohammed was very responsive, since the beginning and he adapted the tour to all our needs. The food was delicious, we had the opportunity of having some sort of showers during the trip and the pace of the tour was really good too. He kindly helped us sort some further travel plans with a trustworthy agency in Luxor. I can definitely recommend Mohammed, who is Bedouin, and his small team for your adventure in the desert, you just need to relax and enjoy. On a final note, we were two female travellers and always felt safe and comfortable. Thank you for everything!

Amazing Desert Dunes Adventure 🏜️ Our two-day adventure to the Western Desert with Egypt Desert Dunes was an amazing experience, that I can safely recommend to anyone! Cairo pick-up was directly from hotel, and transport was in a very modern and comfortable car. Enough breaks at (not overpriced!) gas stations. Lunch at Bahariya was in a guesthouse-like space that we shared with a few other small groups. I personally wished for a more private and "local" lunch experience, but that's minor detail. Food was tasty and they asked if we wanted more! Eventually we changed to a jeep and headed to the desert where we saw many amazing sights. There were two guides - the "main guy" who came from Cairo with us and a local driver. They were mainly chatting with each other in the front of the car, which was okay for us. The guides let us explore and take pictures independently. I would've wished that they'd tell us more about each sight without asking, but they were always happy to answer our questions! Camping at the desert was simply awesome! We shared the camp with another small group of young travellers like ourselves and made friends with them. The guides set up everything very nicely for us while we got to explore the area and chill at the bonfire in the meantime. Dinner at the desert camp, or "Restaurant White Desert" as they called it, was fantastic! Grilled chicken over bonfire was some of the best meal I ate in my 3 weeks in Egypt! Some programme at the camp would've been nice, but it was also okay to just chill. I forgot his name, but our guide told that the big tent was reserved for his customers only (us), so if we want to stay there instead of the other group, we can. We were happy to sleep in the smaller tents instead, but appreciate the gesture. Everything was handled very professionally and the guides were super friendly and helpful! P. S. I STRONGLY recommend sleeping under the stars. You won't get much colder than in the tent, and the starry sky at late night and sunrise in early morning when you open your eyes is stunning! It's sooo worth it! The blankets, mattresses and sleeping bags are really warm and comfy. Book with Egypt Desert Dunes and you won't regret it 😎

Magical desert adventure! A magical three days! Mustafa and Ahmed are not just skilled guides, they are the most thoughtful and kind people. While we packed a lot of activity into three days, we never once felt rushed or frantic. Everything was beautifully paced. They picked the most amazing spots for us to explore and to sleep under the stars. They know the desert and how to navigate it. Mustafa and Ahmed had everything we might have needed: snacks, water, sleeping bags, extra blankets. We had what was one of our most memorable and delicious meals, cooked by our guides on a camp stove. This followed by music and dancing around a campfire and under a nearly full moon. Then a deep, peaceful sleep in the cozy tent they set up for us. This is no out-of-the-box tour. Guides will cater to your needs (e.g., delicious vegetarian meals), abilities, and interests. We would do this again without hesitation and probably for longer than three days next time. Book a trip with Egypt Desert Dunes -- you will be happy you did!

Incredible and amazing experience - A must do! What a great experience! We will never forget this. Two nights and three days in the desert. So much to see with the terrain changing from the black desert through to the white desert with stops at the crystal mountain (my favourite!), the Karaween dunes for sandboarding (my kids favorite), the magic springs (and seeing the remains of a Roman soldier we think!) and many other sights. Excellent driving, relaxing times, wide open spaces, starry nights, campfire chats and the best was the Bedouin-style tent and camping equipment. We were very comfortable and cosy. Our guides Mustafa and Hany catered to our needs so graciously and kindly and cooked wonderfully tasty meals for us! Even a little fox came to get some of the barbecue chicken! Highly recommend this a once in a lifetime opportunity! We hope to do another trip soon as so much to see still and experience. Thank you Mustafa and Hany for the amazing trip!

Unbelievable experience We LOVED our adventure with Egypt Desert Dunes. They communicate everything very clearly so you know where you are going, what you will be doing, and all of the logistics. They also take care of everything - our driver from Cairo to the desert was wonderful and the car was comfortable and clean and then we had lunch and changed to our 4wd car with our two hosts and started the adventure. They brought plenty of snacks, water, and had a ton of information to share with us about the desert. Our camp set up was amazing. Again, our guides took car of everything - cooking dinner, setting up the tents, cooking breakfast and then taking down the tents for the journey home. The camping was very comfortable and the desert is so peaceful. I would absolutely recommend Egypt Desert Dunes to anyone looking to visit the white and black desert. They have other tours to Siwa as well. We will definitely meet our guides again!
